  • Statement

    Pelago d’aria

In Wayne Thiebaud’s view, vital lessons from Giorgio Morandi include awareness of the wonder of intimacy and love of long looking; staring yet at the same time, moving the eye; finding what’s really there… among so much that is subtle and may look like something at one moment, but not the next.

For this recent work, the rocks come from travels to places of great personal significance.

The work though, concerns itself with an unemotional, sober, studied gaze concentrated on space, light, shape and arrangement.

Noi viviamo sommersi nel fondo d’un pelago d’aria./ We live submerged at the bottom of an ocean of air.

    ~ Evangelista Torricelli
